In the current modern era it has become customary,nay, compulsory to entrust our children to a servant maid, when one can afford, to attend to our office. But sometimes such compulsions are fraught with serious consequences. I am narrating here a real life story of a husband and wife who in their eagerness to see that the child does not inculcate the maid servant way or her language entrusted their child to their trusted dumb maid servant and left to attend their avocation. In its earlier age the child did not have any problem as it could not speak. But after it grew up the problem started.The child picked up the sign language and started communicating in the sign language. The parents were engaged in their busy schedule and could not find out this development. Later to their dismay they found that the child could not speak at all. They diagnosed it as some medical problem and spent a huge amount of money on treatment. After a lot of trial and error method one doctor questioned the upbringing of the child and found that the child became dumb because of the employment of the dumb maidservant. But alas it was too late and they had to put their ward in a dumb school to correct the malaise. Now the child is alright and has started to speak and learn but it has become too late as compared to its peers it has grown in age. Suppose if its peers studied in,say, in fourth standard, it could attend only the first standard. This is being narrated to caution young parents underlying the pitfalls of choosing the maidservant.
