Ordeal With Dell N5010

By: arun372 | Posted May 08, 2012 | General | 585 Views

I brought a Dell N5010 15" Screen laptop in 2010. It came with one year warranty and overheating. It managed to run for around one year and then the trouble started, my unwillingness to spent an additional 6k and a misplaced belief in brand prevented me from extending the warranty. My system crashed after 1.3 years, It started by giving blue screen error while booting windows 7 Windows 7 Just would'nt load. I took it to a dell shop and they kindly guided me to local laptop guide since laptop was out of warranty, he changed my harddisc BIOS settings to some SATA to ATA (I'm not sure about this) in BIOS and it started working. It managed to work for two more months and then it crashed entirely with same symptoms.

1) Windows 7 would not load, it will just stop at windows logo AND SYSTEM WILL KEEP REBOOTING ALONG WITH OVERHEATING.

2) In safe mode boot boot it will just stop at /drivers/classpnp.sys

I took system diagnostic test from boot menu and found that my hard disk is crashed (Error 0146), HD make is 2.5 " Western digital scropion blue WD3200 BEVT. I called up to dell to enquire about the possiblity to buy a harddisk along with repairing the device, and they prompty helpled me by replying that I am limited to an option of buying my annual maintenance contract (AMC) just for Rs 14000 !.

Not planning to spent it on dell again I took laptop to a local repair guy,,,he replaced my WD harddisk with 2.5 "seagate and charged me with 5500 and it started working :-)

But now laptop battery says that it is about to die, I am not sure if the repair guy has replaced it ,,Well DAMN THEM ALL

So please guys,

1) Always extend your laptop warranty, it will crash ater one year.

2) DELL will not repair your laptop or sell replacement parts afer warrenty period, if you want to repair or replace parts you have to buy AMC for around 14000 (for one year) or 16000 for accident included,,what a relief ;-)

3) Before giving laptop for repair, make sure u can identify easily replaceable parts like battery and make sure . they are not changed.

4) On Dell N5010 you can replace existing present harddisk with any HD of same formfactor,,,,,,,,,,,atleast it works on mine.

I am not trying to deface anyone , I have my colleagues who are using dell laptop that work without any trouble, but THE CRAP THEY SOLD ME , IT SUCKS !

Cheers,

Arun
