OH, PLEASE DO NOT……………. (A POEM)
Oh, please do not reduce life to a statistics
Do not measure success by things done,
Or measure failure by things not done,
Or by opportunities lost in enriching your coffers.
Measure life by sunsets seen and shared,
Raindrops that gladdened and revived your spirits,
By the smiles you evoked by your humor
And the hearts you filled with hope.
Recall the songs you’ve sung silently with great masters,
The books you have read and the values imbibed,
The Ocean waves seen on the misty shores of consciousness
Recreated through songs and poems.
So, my son, you are rich beyond measure
Than all the Czars of Commerce
Though you walk in the cold chill,
Rubbing shoulders with the common.
You have lived and not flaunted
What after all are mere Statistics
That the world runs after time and again
Those worthless baubles of insignificance.
