She and her relatives landed Madras on 28th November..my sister went and received them. I was not given a chance to see her that day! As a only boy in our family, I took one my close colleague of the factory, I was working on 29th November 1973, and waited in the reception hall of the Hotel, where our engagement was arranged, with my friend, parents, sisters and other relatives. My eyes were on the entrance of Engagement hall, holding her PP size photo to have a glimpse of her beauty..but I couldn't find her!
Finally the time came and we entered the Hall. We were asked to sit opposite to Bride,s family row about 15'apart! I was all the time staring at her (!), but she never even lifted her head and looked at me!! patiently ( dreaming about her) waited the pastor to complete the ritual formalities. The time came to exchange the ring! She, that time also never looked at me...with her nervous hand, holding my finger and slipped the ring in my finger.
Immediately the dinner started and I was sitting next to her and trying to talk to her, but I heard only hmmm hmmm from her...such a sweet voice to hear!
I couldn't talk to her until we got married! Many times I tried to call her (There was no cellphone those days and I have to get her room number through the operator. I always get a reply from the operator that she was not in he room!
To cut short, finally the wedding day came and we got married! About 2000 of my classmates, colleagues attended the wedding, and we were running short of food!!
On the first night(!) I first asked her what made her to choose me as her better-half? She said that her dad inquired about me to many, including my boss, Church people, My College professors, and all said that I am a lovable God fearing man...and that was the only thing she was looking for...not for any external look and beauty.
Tears started rolling....
