MILK (The Movie)

Sorry that I cant post this review on the page of reviews hence have put it on my Diary.

IF THE Oscars were up to me they could hand the Best Actor prize to Sean Penn right now.

His performance in Milk is simply superb. He completely loses himself within the character of Harvey Milk, capturing a beguiling sense of the man's flirtatious charm, generosity of spirit and political commitment. Milk was the first openly gay elected official in America. He fought prejudice with calm logic and good humour. In 1978 he was shot dead along with the mayor of San Francisco. Gus Van Sant's Milk is not a bitter lamentation for what might have been but a tender evocation of the man and what he came to represent. Looking like a lost Marx brother, Milk is first seen in New York in 1970. It is the very day of his 40th birthday and he celebrates by meeting boyfriend Scotty (the excellent James Franco). The couple subsequently move to San Francisco and start to build a life together. The film conveys an authentic feel of the social upheavals in American society during the Seventies and how Milk braved death threats and fierce opposition to pursue his grass roots activism. Josh Brolin offers notable support as Dan White, the ex-cop whose attitude to Milk would have such tragic consequences. Intelligent, heartfelt filmmaking, this is a moving tribute to the life and legacy of the man they called the Mayor of Castro Street

Well just came to know that Sean Penn has won the award he indeed deserves it
