MANY TEENAGE GIRLS DISAPPEARED IN…. (A POEM)
Many teenage girls disappeared in Bangalore.
Parents out of shame didn’t go the Police
Till they could not endure this endemic.
Police swung into action and located some
Living with their paramours in distant towns,
Some in brothels when their lovers dumped them
After squeezing out their spirit and charm
Like a discarded crushed bitter lemon rind
After it transfers its taste to Lamb Biriyani.
Their paramours were mechanics, carpenters and plumbers
Who hardly would have been the parents’ choices
As husbands for their flower-like sweet daughters!
“Why did the girls do it?” was on the lips of all.
A lady Police Officer, also a Psychologist said,
“It is only for sex. These men suited
Their vision of an Adonis of their dreams.
Parents are to be blamed for not providing direction.
They have only provided money, clothes and luxuries,
But no direction and values. Many have been
Part-time parents; parenting is a full time job.
Parents forget that they can’t rest from their labors,
They have to be vigilant, protective and watchful.”
Parents blamed regional movies
Extolling the union of an auto-driver
And the daughter of a rich household ----
A new kind of democratic egalitarianism
Breeding a havoc of a new kind of reasoning
Among impressionable girls.
Note : We saw this news item on local Kannada T.V. just a few days ago. I am sure many people in Karnataka and elsewhere too must have watched this presentation. Friends, we would like to get your views on these incidents. Many of us are parents of girl children and necessarily should be anxious if not agonised!
