Let's make the basic things straight first

Today morning at 7 am after returning from my jogging, out of my habit picked up the news paper and at once the headline attracted my attention which said some lady judge declared the expense for the marriage of her two daughters as “Liability” on her declaration of wealth. The main point was not the declaration of wealth by an esteemed citizen as now a day it’s very common, we have seen esteemed citizens having four mansions, five land plots and six cars with an income declaration of Rs 25000 pm. The main point was she should not have declared the expenses of her daughter’s marriage as liabilities, as this act will depict that such a highly respectable, responsible judge thinks her daughters as liabilities and it hammers the system’s pseudo image as equal rights provider to the fairer sex. So it was against the dignity of womanhood and hence such hue and cry. Interesting headliner, huh?

In the third page there was a small news, it was presented as a small news at the corner of the page, which again attracted my attention. Just 45 kilometers away from Kolkata, in the suburbs a 15 years old girl was raped and killed. She was from a very poor family, her father was a farmer and hence he could not support his daughter in her studies. But she did not lose hope, started doing tuitions and with the little money she earned, she used to pay her school fees, she was in class XI. From Monday night she did not come back home from the tuition classes and the next day morning they found her dead body in a field with clear signs of rape by multiple people. She was 15 years old.

Now all you people there still having sane brains and sensitive hearts, can you tell me in a nation which taught us to shout “Mera Bharat Mahan” from our childhood, which news should be in the headline and which should be in the corner of third page? Both are related to cruelty to women in some way or other, but which is more devastating, more insulting to a nation ruled by it’s citizens?

Now the question is why the news paper thought the first one is bigger news than the second? Well, the answer is, because we, people, think that way only, that’s why. Now a day media feeds us what we like to take, what makes us interested. We give a damn when a 15 years girl was raped and murdered somewhere in the country; we are a country of 1.2 billion people, so these “small” things will happen here and there. Sometime ago I remember a news, a girl was raped, she filed FIR in the police station, the same people raped her again for this step she took. Every day you will get this kind of news somewhere in this huge country. So what’s the of point shouting, it’s so normal. That’s the way we started thinking and hence we find it more interesting if a judge declares the expense for her daughters marriage as liability. It has uniqueness!!! We are happy shouting slick punch lines like woman empowerment, woman equality, women reservation bill. We did our job. Bravo India Bravo!!!
