Let's TAKE CARE of Ourselves!

In the last 3 months, I came across 3 sudden and unexpected deaths which have put me in a tizzy. All these 3 deceased were less than 56 years of age, died suddenly and the cause of death was heart attack. The latest of the 3 cases is that of actor Nirmal Pandey who was just 48 years old when he passed away on Feb 18 following a massive heart attack.

The first one was of a lady in my building who must be around 50 who died in the train while she with her family and relatives were on their way to a pilgrim spot. However, it was a peaceful death-she passed away in her sleep. She was always cheerful and smiling and I never heard her of complaining of any ailment. Needless to say, we all were disillusioned when we got the tragic news.

The second death, the most shocking and disturbing, was that of my closest friend’s father. He complained of pain at around midnight. Before his family could admit him to a hospital, he had already died. I was informed about the demise the next day by his neighbor who is also a nice friend. At first, I couldn’t believe and was expecting him to say that he’s joking. But unfortunately, that didn’t happen. His son who’s my friend, daughter, her wife and his father were in a state of shock. The man was fit and fine hours before his death and he was just 56.

It is a fact now that heart attacks are theleading cause of death worldwide. It can happen anytime in one’s life-even youngsters suffer from it! What makes it dangerous is that it can arrive suddenly and without any warning in most cases. And the family and the loved ones find it extremely close to cope with such a sudden unexpected loss.

It’s high time we change this scenario so that tomorrow we or our loved one doesn’t have to face something like this. Our sedentary lifestyle doesn’t allow us to exercise, which results into stress (and some resort to smoking to cope up with it) and obesity-all of which are potent causes of heart attack. Let us all make some minor changes. Doing simple activities like walking for 30 to 45 minutes is very beneficial for our health. Foods containing fats are yummy no doubt but it can increase the risk of heart diseases. Let’s not stop eating it but let’s not binge on it too.

Getting tensed is in no way going to solve our problems. So let’s just relax and think to come out of a difficult situation. Remember the two classic sayings in Hindi, “Jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega” and “Jo hota hai achche ke liye hota hai”! At the same time, we should smile often and take out time to indulge in activities we like. Watching light hearted sitcoms or films is a great idea. And as immortalized by Shalu, loafing is a great option too and it does help you to chill!

So let’s spread the message and let’s reduce the heart attack cases around. We all deserve to life and that too as long as we can! And as a source of inspiration, I have posted the pic of Dev Anand! If he, at the age of 86, can live healthily, so can we!
