Is Hindi the "National Language" ?

By: jpmlore | Posted Aug 14, 2008 | General | 862 Views

Wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day!!.

Pardon me if I have "hurt" sentiments on the eve of a wonderful day.

An incident happened yesterday when I was training few people. I realized that no matter how hard I tried I could never get my spoken hindi grammatically correct. I need to translate english or kannada into hindi. The biggest problem is that hindi considers inanimate objects as male/female. Kalam (pen) is a female as in kalam ki istemal karni hain...and so on. but not so in kannada or english. Native seakers of hindi have no problem as they are subconciously aware of this.

I got a comment saying that it is the duty of every citizen of India to learn the "National Language".I dont agree. Pardon me, But, Constitution has defined "official languages" not national languages. approximately 41% speak/understand hindi or one of its dialect.

Agreed, there is a need to learn the language of majority in a workplace.

how many of you still believe that Hindi is a National Language?? I say that Hindi is one of the official Languages.

If you dont believe me read Article 343 to 347 of Indian constitution.
