Indian standards prepared by Bureau of Indian Standards are priced publications, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that they are available for free download on the internet. The link to this webpage is – https://law.resource.org/pub/in/manifest.in.html

This disclosure is to promote the right to information.

Whereas the Parliament of India has set out to provide a practical regime of right to

information for citizens to secure access to information under the control of public authorities, in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority, and whereas the attached publication of the Bureau of Indian Standards is of particular interest to the public, particularly disadvantaged communities and those engaged in the pursuit of education and knowledge, the attached public safety standard is made available to promote the timely dissemination of this information in an accurate manner to the public.

The Indian standards are made available to the public under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act of 1986 and the Right to Information Act of 2005. In order to promote public education and public safety, equal justice for all, a better informed citizenry, the rule of law, world trade and world peace, this legal document is hereby made available on a non-commercial basis, as it is the right of all humans to know and speak the laws that govern them.

If this is in agreement with BIS, making Indian Standards available free of cost, BIS certainly needs big thanks from Indian public. BIS is national standards body of India and should also provide Indian standards free to Indian people in view of the noble objectives as stated above.
