I was beaming, my blind shots were hitting targets..BullsEyes! Confidence was growing, and could not imagine waiting for the next 23 hours and 15 minutes to pass by.
At 10:45 PM…my fon rings. Wife is by my side & we are watching some program ( of course her choice of program, she had the bhains ka danda, I mean the remote, gripped ever so firmly).
The moment I picked up to see the caller ID, it got disconnected, but the call was registered as Missed call. I kept the fon back. In another 3 – 4 minutes, it rang again, I picked and it again got disconnected immediately.
My wife knew something was hanky panky.
She asked me if I could get her a bottle of water from the fridge. I knew she wanted to check the last missed call numbers.
I had fed this number as RHM North (Regional Hospitality Manager North).
As I got up, she said, “ Who called?”
I said, “Office ka koi banda hai North ka.”
She was not convinced. “Then why is he disconnecting.
I said,”maybe waiting for me to call him. Maybe his quota of Rs 1200 is getting exhausted.”
“And what about you?”
I said,”We at corporate dont have those limits.”
”Then why don’t you call him?”
I said,”Let me get the water.”
As I moved out of the room, she said,”Just draw the curtains in the drawing room and the kitchen ki khidaki bhi band kardo, chipkali aa jaati hai, newspapaer bhi lete aana, subah se dekha hi nhi….”
I got all that was to be and did what was demanded and she had already checked the last two calls and was probably convinced.
I asked her,”Phir se to fon nhi aaya?”
She said.” What?” smiled
“Was there another missed call?”
“No, I didn’t hear any.” smiles again
She gave me a peck and said, "pta nhi koi RHM female bhi to ho sakti hai."
I said, “Haan Kyun nhi, You may call him and if his wife picks up, tu to mera sar hi phod dalegi.”
Wife: Nahi.
Me: Kyu, shaq karne mein kitni der lagti hai?
She: I know you are mine
