I SALUTE YOU, MY COUNTRYMEN (A POEM)
I salute you, my countrymen
Because you woke up from lethargy
Rejecting the promises of mealy mouthed politicians
Who promised you temples, Swiss bank disclosures,
Roads in villages that you don’t use,
And championed the abrogation
Of structured plans for our national progress.
You have shown you can separate
The wheat from the chaff,
The liars from the progressive reformers;
You saw through them all ----
You showed that you cannot be taken for granted
Or for a ride; you showed you care for your nation,
Good governance and your prestige among nations.
You did all these, silently, showing your approbation
Of what is wholesome and right;
And your contempt for those with trivial pursuits,
Obstructionist tendencies that even the devil
Had long abandoned as Machiavellian and anarchical.
My countrymen, once more you made me proud
To be one among you in your struggle for liberation
From stupidity, ignorance and political deceit.
