I was reading today's ROTD,and I was intrigued by the title... No,Pain or heartbreak does not a star make, but it does fuel creativity. Let me quote Shelley again, when he says,
"We look before and after,
And pine for what is not:
Our sincerest laughter
With some pain is fraught;
Our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thought."
Someone once said,that the only thing which is worse than not getting what you want, is getting what you want. Jordan once wanted to feel pain, so he could fuel his music... his creativity... but once he got that pain,nothing mattered, not stardom, not music, not fans, not the trappings which came with it...Only Heer, who became the centre of his life, so much so that when she is away, the pain consumes him,and when she comes back, life "literally" runs through veins....... The movie is not about a rockstar,its an epic love story,about a love which heeds no norms,no social rules,which was crazy,insane, all consuming...
I have always loved movies which had their hearts in the right place... where the creator tries to engage my mind,where everything is not laid out for me on a plate... Imtiaz Ali, since the days of Socha Na Tha has treated his viewers as intelligent beings,and not duds who will swallow any crap dished out in the name of cinema... Yes I have my issues with Rockstar, but if push comes to shove,I will take Rockstar with its flawed depiction of a love which soothes your soul, and when the symbol of that love goes away, you wait to be united with that love... No Sir, Heartbreak indeed does not a star make....
