Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai

Har ghar chup chap se ye kehta hai

Ke andar isme kaun rehta hai….

Whoever thought of these lines was bang on target. I have realized that homes do talk. Or to be more precise each home carries an aura. This aura has nothing to do with the size of the house or the furniture. Its a feeling that comes to us the moment we step into somebody’s house – we can feel if it’s a happy home or an unhappy one. A home mirrors the attitude of the people living there. That’s the reason some homes feel stuffy inspite of having ample space and ventilation. And some, inspite of cramped interiors, give a feeling of space and lightness.

I guess the same thing applies to offices as well. I feel that the work culture of an office determines its aura. One of the companies I used to work for had a work culture of repression. The top bosses believed in getting things done in a strict manner. When I changed jobs, I got a professional and easy-going working environment. One day I had to go to my old office for some formalities and I realized that I was feeling suffocated there. Now as an outsider, I could feel the real aura of that office. After that I made it a point to trust my instincts whenever I go for a job interview. Now even if the offer is good I don’t take it up if the aura of that office disturbs me.

Is it any wonder then that most government offices give a feeling of stagnation? Another example is hospitals. No matter how clean or swanky a hospital, it is never a happy place. Maybe because mostly people don’t go to hospitals for a happy reason.

So I guess instead of spending money on expensive furniture, we should spend time and energy on making our near and dear ones happy. The effort will show in the happy aura of our homes.
