~~4 WEEKS TO GO FOR FENIL’S BOLLYWOOD TALK 100 WEEK CELEBRATIONS!~~

PRINCE WORKS AT THE BO!

I was totally tied up on Saturday and Sunday. I realized on Friday that if I need to watch Prince in the weekend itself, I would have to see an early morning show. Fortunately I got company and we went for 8am show of Prince in a nearby multiplex on Saturday. The sight that welcomed us was astonishing-there was a huge serpentine queue at the ticket window and all were there to get the tickets of Prince’ show! I stood in the queue, thinking that I have visited this multiplex several times and rarely have I seen such a long queue for any film. And today I am waiting in the line to get tickets of the early morning show and that too of a Vivek Oberoi movie! The actor has finally got his due!

Almost everyone was of the view that Prince, inspite of the fabulous promotion, would turn out to be a disaster as Vivek is a ‘flop actor’. But the producers have proved all the detractors wrong. Prince took a thunderous start everywhere. After a long time, cineplexes proudly exhibited ‘House Full’ boards outside the door! All this was possible thanks to the brilliant publicity strategy adopted by the makers, Tauranis (Tips). They have always aggressively promoted all their films and Prince was no exception. This is a lesson to all filmmakers-promote your film well and increase the curiosity surrounding it and chances of getting a decent amount of audience is greater for sure.

The only factor that still goes against Prince is its high cost. They have all the time till House Full’s release (Apr 30) to accumulate as much profit as possible. Hopefully they’ll recover their investment. Best of luck!

PAATHSHALA V/S PHOONK 2:

2 medium budget films up for release tomorrow!

PAATHSHALA: The film is ready since 2008-end but due to numerous reasons, its release got delayed. Big Pictures had acquired the film but later backed out. Finally, Eros bought the film and has managed to give it a decent release. Promotion has been almost satisfactory and songs (esp Aye Khuda) have managed to increase hype. It seems like a social flick and it should work provided it’s well made!

PHOONK 2: Phoonk took a fantastic opening thanks to dare-to-watch-alone campaign embarked by the producers. However, the film wasn’t quite liked. But still it recovered all its cost which was quite low anyway(3-4 crores). The biggest complaint was that the film didn’t scare at all! And therefore, Phoonk 2 might be at a disadvantage. It has failed to arouse the curiosity that Phoonk had aroused. It might be a Hit if it turns out to be good. Let’s see!
