WILL ANIMAL EMERGE AS THE BIGGEST HIT OF RANBIR KAPOOR?
The last few months haven't been great for the industry. Tiger 3 opened with a bang despite challenges in the form of the Diwali holiday and World Cup 2023. Due to mixed word of mouth, it is now struggling to even cross the Rs. 275 crores mark. The subsequent releases like Khichdi 2, Farrey and Starfishbombed. But now the industry is geared up for the release of Animal. The advance booking of the film is terrific, to say the least.
Animal stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deoland Rashmika Mandanna. It is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga of Kabir Singh fame. The film caught attention with its announcement way back on January 1, 2021. Then the bloodied first look of Ranbir Kapoor was unveiled on January 1, 2023. The teaser got appreciation though the songs didn't leave a mark.
The trailer, meanwhile, was launched on November 23, 8 days before the release. And it took the hype for the film up by many notches. Animal seems like an intense action drama with a strong father-son angle. Ranbir, meanwhile, has outdone himself, going by his scenes in the promo. The presence of Anil and Bobby has also added to the hype.
Interestingly, Animal has been granted an 'A' certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification. Also, it's 3 hours and 23 minutes long! The makers have openly spoken about it and made sure that moviegoers are aware of it. The audience is too excited and has booked tickets in hordes despite these aspects.
Ranbir Kapoor's biggest opener is Sanjuat Rs. 34.19 crores. If all goes well, Animal will open in the range of Rs. 40-45 crores. It can even go higher. If the word of mouth is strong, it'll have a strong weekend, of more than Rs. 120 crores. It has three open weeks and can cross Sanju's collections of Rs. 334.57 crores. A poor word of mouth will still help the film reach Rs. 175 crores as the curiosity is tremendous.
Animal is not the only release tomorrow. Sam Bahaduralso arrives in cinemas on December 1. It stars Vicky Kaushal as Sam Manekshaw, the legendary ex-chief of the Indian Army. Fatima Sana Shaikh plays the role of Indira Gandhi while Sanya Malhotra plays Sam's wife.
The trailer has been appreciated big time. Many felt that it would struggle to get an opening due to Animal. Thankfully, its ticket sales are decent. It can open in the range of Rs. 5 crores and Rs. 7 crores. It needs a strong word of mouth to sustain the competition from the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer.
3 ½ months ago, OMG 2 clashed with the mighty Gadar 2. Yet, OMG 2 opened at a whopping Rs. 9.25 crores. Sam Bahadur won't open at such a big figure but if it trends like the Akshay Kumar-starrer, it'll emerge as a profitable venture.
