WHEN YOU GO AGAINST THE TIDE…

I was hugely disappointed with the kind of comments that I received for my Dev D review. It proved that people here on MS have no respect for other’s views. For those who came in late, Dev D, the film released last Friday, got rave reviews from everywhere, even here on MS. But I didn’t quite like the film and that’s why wrote a negative review. And then started the bombardment of criticizing comments! I was thrashed for being a kid, not worthy of understanding films etc etc. Firstly, it was funny but after a point of time, it became frustrating to see such comments.

It’s such a shame that these ‘intelligent audience’ on MS can’t bear someone thrashing Dev D. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. We may not agree to one’s particular view on a product, but it’s important to respect it. When I read a review, I rate it on the basis of how it’s written and presented. Whether I agree to it or no is secondary. I expected people to do the same for my review on Dev D, but alas!

Reading the stupid comments in my review, one can clearly see how much proud they are of themselves just because they have appreciated a hatke film. Then they are some who appreciate films like Dev D and always look down on commercial films and feel superior. And some are just praising films like Dev D just because others are also doing the same. They fear that if they thrash such a film, to log kya kahenge. To hell with such darpoks and pseudo intellectuals!!

This post is not meant to hurt or offend anybody but just to tell all the MSians that learn to respect other’s views and opinions. Don’t just start arguing and disrespecting fellow MSians just because their likes don’t match yours. And lastly, hats off to Shalu (S_Dhyani), Paul (Paulsb02), Sweety (sweets_desire), Siddhartha (baruah.siddhartha), Nidhi (nidhi1), Vikas (ssvikas) and Sajith (sajiths). These people have the sense and have always supported me and respected my view, even though they might not being be agreeing to it. These are the real MSians!

BILLU BARBER IS NOW ‘BILLU’

A stupid controversy arose five days before the release of Billu Barber. The Salon and Beauty Parlour Association have objected to the word 'Barber' in the title of the film. They find it derogatory since they say that barber is not only a profession but also a caste. Not wanting to hurt anyone’s sentiments, Shahrukh Khan, the producer of the film, has agreed to drop ‘Barber’ from the title. So now the film is titled Billu.

This was a very stupid protest by this association. Firstly, the film is in the news since six months and its promos are on air since two months. Were they sleeping all this while? Couldn’t they have protested before? Also, a Bombay Times article today has showed that most of the barbers they interviewed had absolutely no problem with the use of barber in a film’s title. And not to forget that SRK has invited 500 barbers for the premiere, instead of inviting stars. Then why did The Salon and Beauty Parlour Association create a hullabaloo? This clearly shows that the association is doing just to gain some publicity, by creating unnecessary problems for the film at the eleventh hour.

Something similar happened during the release of Rang De Basanti. The Animal Welfare Board objected to a horse scene in the film. The same scene was aired right from the time the first promo was aired. The Welfare Board were sleeping all that while and woke up only when the film was days away from the release.

Coming back to Billu Barber, oops…I mean Billu, The film is already censored with the title ‘Billu Barber’. Even the promos aired on TV are old ones; hence they still carry the old title. And regarding the posters of the film on the streets, the producers have ordered to put a tape across the term ‘barber’ on the hoarding (check the pic)! Indians will never change!
