REVOLVER RANI V/S KAANCHI V/S SAMRAT AND CO!

2 States was the last biggie of this season of 2014. Now, till Holiday’s release on June 6, there would be only small-budget and medium-budget movies that would hit screens. And needless to say, there would be multiple films every week. There are 5 films up for release on May 2 and as many as 7 films planning to arrive on May 9! Tomorrow, however, the following 3 films will be vying for attention:

REVOLVER RANI: It features Kangana Ranaut in the leading role, who has caught a lot of attention after the super-duper success of Queen. While she played a sweet and coy Delhi girl in Queen, in Revolver Rani, she plays a firebrand gangster who stands out thanks to her eccentricities. Vir Das is paired opposite her and their chemistry seems quite novel, as evident from the promos. Music has got unnoticed but the content has been impressed. But the buzz isn’t immense and hence, a moderate to below average opening is on the cards. It is interesting to note that Revolver Rani can open better than Queen but the former won’t be able to beat the lifetime figures of the latter, unless the word of mouth is very, very positive.

KAANCHI: This is a larger than life flick of Subhash Ghai and introduces the beautiful Mishti in Bollywood. Pyaar Ka Punchnama actor Kartik Tiwari(now rechristened as Karthik Aryan) is seen opposite Mishti in this film that also features Rishi Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty. Sadly, the film doesn’t look exciting enough and this would surely affect the collections. Moreover, songs in Ghai’s films have always worked, even when the movie flops but in Kaanchi’s case, even the music has failed to make a mark. A lot has been spent on Kaanchi and recovery is surely going to be a difficult task for Ghai and his team.

SAMRAT & CO: Rajshri Productions is back, but this time with a suspense-detective drama, Samrat & Co. It stars Rajeev Khandelwal as the sleuth and features how he successfully solves a tricky case where almost dozen people are suspects. While the promos have got thumbs up, the buzz is limited and the competition from Revolver Rani, Kaanchi and also last week’s 2 States can affect its prospects. But the positive word of mouth can help the film to an extent.
