WILL 2 STATES MEET THE HUMONGOUS EXPECTATIONS?
Chetan Bhagat is one of the most popular writers ever of India and 2 States is one of his most successful and accomplished novels. A film on this beautiful novel was keenly awaited and many filmmakers tried to take the plunge. Due to various reasons, nobody was successful and it’s Karan Johar’s associate director Abhishek Verman who finally got things together and made the film.
The name of the film, like the novel, is 2 States, the first for any film based on Chetan Bhagat’s book. It stars Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in leading roles and features Revathi, Ronit Roy, Amrita Singh and Shiv Subramaniam as the parents. The film looks fresh, vibrant and colourful and very witty and hilarious too. In fact, the theatrical trailer got a huge response(It has garnered almost 67 lakh video views on YouTube, as on Tuesday April 15, 2014) which is an indication that the film is keenly awaited. Songs aren’t that great but are not a disappointment either. Moreover, the film releases on a Holiday(Friday April 18 is Good Friday) and hence, the film has a real advantage to take a very huge opening and then sustain well on Saturday and Sunday, if response is positive.
With such a great response and the fact that it’s based on such a loved novel, there would be remote chances of 2 States failing at the box office. Even if public response isn’t very positive, it can still manage to accumulate huge profit till Day 3.
