Good morning every one. I was away - had gone to Chandigarh to attend the engagement of my cousin. Now, now! I have been reading Chetan Bhagat's 3 Mistakes of My Life. Was his second book that I have read after One Night @ Call Centre.
I have been thinking. Why is Chetan so popular? Someone told me yesterday that he is India's largest selling author and that is books sell in places like Igatpuri and Itarsi also. Why? Why? I thought. Apparently, he has ousted even Shobha De who was once considered to be the queen of best sellers. Why? Why?
I think I have the answer.
a. He follows a formula - young people with dreams, they then have problems and then they introspect before coming up with solutions. Add to this a dash of romance, a para or a page of sex and you have it. His novels are totally youth centric and therefor youngsters like reading them
b. His books are family affairs. Sex is not the main theme. No illicit romance and sex is mostly a garnishing instead of being the main theme.
c. His language is so simple. No need to look at the dictionary.
I think this is it. If you people have some more ideas, please put in your comments. I am soon going to write a review on 3 Mistakes of My Life.
