I visited Chennai day before yesterday and reached the airport at 1:00 am. I was cautious because I heard and faced Chennai taxies few years back. I took Govt. approved pre paid taxi paying 270 from airport to Thiruvanmiyur. Looks like a lot of money !! The driver picked me, even when I asked if he knows the address. He could not locate the house at one shot and took approximately 10 mins and 1 KM extra in tracing the house. Now the Chennai taxi instinct starts it’s role … Extra …how much …He did not agree anything less than 100. Another great impression of Chennai …..
Next day I played safe and took a flat airport drop Rs 350/- from a private operator. I reached airport handed over Rs 500 . The driver kept the money and started the cab to move…hey 1 mins …wher is the change ….what he said in his typical accent…No change sir….I was grinding my teeth ….Anyways …I somehow collected Rs 400 from my pockets and paid 400. He again said No change sir even without searching his pockets for some money if he could return….
I wish no body should get into the trap of Chennai taxies. Yes one lesson, always keep change with you when you are in Chennai, those people d are not worth showing a big currency note.
