Card (Paper) Models

Over the past couple of months I've got obsessive about card modelling. For those who are not aware of the art form, it is basically building scale models and stuff with paper and board.

The initiation came from my original hobby of Collecting scale model aircraft. I now have a collection of over 200 such scales models. Having them (only about 1/4 for lack of space) on display in a showcase got quite boring and I thought to myself, the perfect setting would be if these planes were actually displayed in a model airport. And thus began my quest for diagrams and plans for Airports. It is here that I stumbled upon the concept of card modelling and acquired designs and layouts of Airports in 1/400 scale.

The build never really happened due to the enormity of space required for setting up a 1/400 scale airport (8ft x 4ft). I'd be thrown out of the house if I embarked on such an expedition.

But something else happened while I was on this quest to find airport designs; I discovered this whole new world of scale modelling called card (paper) modelling and I started acquiring hundreds of plans and designs. The search continued and the building started, initially with just plain black and white prints from a normal printer with simple designs and then moved on to more complicated ones and that too in colour. I started with a aircraft hangar diorama and then went from a house building phase to a ship building phase.

So all this building kept happening and all this while things seemed a bit static. I had seen stuff online about HO Railroading and also checked out prices of HO Railroads (Hornby to be precise). The prices were prohibitive and so the day I saw a couple of HO Railroads sets on discount, I just had to have them. Much to the displeasure of my wife, but gosh like a little boy I unpacked the smaller set and laid out the tracks and got busy running ht train on the tracks. I guess she saw the joy in the little things that I was doing and cooled off.

Then started the Railroad madness and then for weeks I’ve been up every night building platforms, buildings, warehouses, buildings, et al for the grand HO Railroad I have in mind.

So if any one is passionate about Scale modelling and HO Railroads do get in touch with me and I’ll offer whatever bit of help that I can.
