Bed, My Valentine !!

By: khulamunh | Posted Feb 11, 2009 | General | 1126 Views

Culminating the series of posts for this Valentines with one for my Bed.Here where I spend most of my time, when at home,I just love to and I love it....

There are innumerable versions on Pros & Cons of being married vs being single(read happy). The one that gave me a real good laff was,you can get off the bed from either side,if single..HA HA..!!

With my first job,I never knew the need for any furniture at home.I was at work or at the pubs, well this was in Banglore in 90-91. All I had was a 5” thick mattress, thrown on the floor for me to crash onto every night, and there was nothing to sweep under the bed,so to say. Also, there was a large cane basket(for the dirties),as the washing ritual happened only once a week.

After marriage, the need for some things to break the monotony of the empty room was felt. First came the dresser-she needed and liked to adorn herself;then came a dining table-to spread her culinary experiments for me to compliment her endlessly, and also an Almirah-now to hold the daily washed ‘n’ ironed clothes. Perhaps she was still shy to ask for a bed,the 5” thick Queen sized mattress always seemed larger than our requirement.

We moved in and out of the parents home to build our own nuclear family, and the need arose, also the family grew,in numbers and girth.Joking,Nah! I am not!!

I shifted earlier and the family had to join me later. I planned to set up the house complete to surprise them, and I did,the expression on the faces of these two women in my life apart from my MOM said it,or so I read!

The bewildered amazement, atleast as I think as I look back…

The living room in Black wrought iron, the other furniture and TV & Fridge in Grey and deep blue heavy curtains;the kiddos room in Baby colors and ours with a real king sized bed in deep amber colored wood and an 8” mattress(just like in hotels)to sink into, lotsa cushions and a couple of bolsters. She said,”this is what I always dreamt my room to be like”.

We needed to rekindle our lost love, for all the lost time.Took them for a long drive, then a walk by the lake and a lovely dinner in a boat. The breeze played in her hip long hair, the kiddo was fascinated dining over water and I was content watching the happiness and glee.

Post dinner, fatigue took over my daughter,as was with wifey. We crashed for the night,Yeah we did...the mattress, pillows, cushions, bolsters et al supported us,but then they all went hither dither;but one thing that stood solid was the large king sized deep amber colored wooden ZUARI bed.

Yes,it is about this bed that I dedicate my Valentine revu to.The elegantly finished edges, the niches to hold the mattress in place, the headboard with a slight curve like a smile, the sliding box underneath, the base and cross bars to withstand the weight, are all perfect. One good buy at an economical budget, yet matching the similar colored Zuari TV & Music trolley on which rests our 29” full flat & my wall to wall wardrobe matches shade to shade & grain to grain.

We feel so proud and Love the bed as much as we Love each other,or even more and I don’t mind getting off from only one side. It feels to share the happiness & love & strength that the bed provides after every time we have had a fight(u have read it all in my DPs recently) and every time when we whisper,”I think the kiddo is asleep”, we need not to worry, the bed wont creek to give it away!!

Sorry, if it seems personal,or too personal, but its my connotation of describing the beauty of the Zuari bed @ Rs 14850/ and the box underneath @ Rs 2750/,even matching night stands were available @ Rs 2400/ each(we opted against). It came in a completely knocked down(CKD) state and the guys assembled it in a mere 30 minutes at my place.

I bought mine during Diwali @ D Mart, but its available at a lot of furniture showrooms too.

If you are planning to start a family,go for this one,as it is a nice investment and if you intend to change the look of the room,do give this option also a 'dekko'.Its great Value for Money, believe me!!
