Are all fitness clubs in India antagonistic to health?

By: braja_trainer | Posted Aug 10, 2014 | General | 349 Views

I have worked in at least 5 reputed fitness clubs in India. They don't have any productive working model and their customer attrition rate proves this point. I have worked in a well-established fitness clubs based in Mumbai which always lose around 500-800 members per year and keep maintaining very high pressure on the fitness trainers to do sales targets. I have never seen them discussing about customers' health in their top-level meeting. They seriously discuss only about money, sales, new discounts schemes every month. It is ridiculous then why fitness clubs, not to deliver health? Anyone can see in the job websites, that the qualification expected for fitness trainer job is just 10th Pass. Is 10th Pass equivalent to MD or MS in India? Fitness training requires solid foundation knowledge about human body, planning safe and effective program, tracking the health-fitness progressions and motivate the utter lazy clientele(most of them are truly lazy clientele only) to tightly adhere to exercise routines in their life. How just a 10th pass students can do this visionary work? Why the fitness club managing directors and HR managers need this substandard people to deliver fitness services to their clientele? In another fitness club inside Embassy Golf links, Domlur, the fitness trainers should stand for 9 hours on the gym floor and the management stupidly wants the trainers to be there all the time(no break to urinate, no break to have food) but to deliver best work to general and personal training clients through absolutely haphazard working model through which no body gets benefited. A reputed fitness club in Mysore has all the gym equipments failed and got to repaired and for almost last 3 years the equipments remain in same pathetic state. Amidst this, the manager puts the maximum possible pressure on the trainers to enhance sales performance. There are so many fitness clubs like this deteriorates and their business falls to the point of no return but they do not want to change their working style. They are not realizing they need strong key players to retain loyal clientele. I really wonder why I wasted working with these fitness clubs where there is no role model team leader, no visionary approach and no step-by-step practical learning experience. On the top of all, there is no respect and value for subject matter experts. Gimmicks works very well in some clubs as a large pool of gullible customers fall into the systems of health that is absolutely fake and lacks scientific guidance. Not sure who is going to rectify this. Not sure if these problems are in state of rectification because the reputation for fitness clubs have degenerated so badly.
