About rising prices & the common man..

By: ayanmisra | Posted Aug 16, 2016 | General | 258 Views

We live in a strange world. We have multiplexes where everything costs 4 times their price outside. The movie tickets in a multiplex may cost Rs 1500/-.There are schools where it costs Rs 50,000 per year to educate a 5 year old child. There are shops in a mall where the cost of a garment is minimum Rs 2000/- and its only a tshirt. There are shows on television that talk about sarees that cost upward of a lakh. The list is endless and these prices only keep climbing. Why,you may ask.Because there are very few genuine buyers. We are living in a world that is overvalued.Things are not worth their asking price. And as fewer and fewer people buy these goods and services the prices keep increasing. This is what so-called liberalisation has done to us.There are some people who are making a lot of money. The guys from IT & ITes and the government job-holders maybe. But even in these sectors the supply of money is not plentiful. What is the core problem?Probably inefficiency. Most certainly there is not enough money in the system. If you try to see all the money ultimately comes from the poorest sections. They are end customers of all manufactured goods.Indeed these goods are not of good quality. And even if they are people do not have the money to buy whatever is on offer.Naturally this leads to things becoming costlier as inefficiency leads to inflation. If we must indeed progress(which means more money for all)we must make better things.More efficiency can help us curb price rise or at least keep prices affordable.
