The song goes... Nafrat karnewalo kay, seenay mein pyaar bhar du...
Dear, O dear... whatever U say might be correct. But my experience with the camera was different. In auto mode, I took snaps sometimes with 12X optical & at times with safe digital zoom. The images, though sharp, lacked brightness.... There was chromatic aberration. Anyway, now there is no scope for me to do further research on this, bcos, I was so upset with the camera, that I sold it ! But I am not the only one who is unhappy. There are many. On tech2.com, pl. read the review by Gagan Gupta & U will understand what I am saying. Or read the comment of Ramankannan. Just see how frustrated he is with S5 IS ! My only intention of writing the review is to give one advice to all those who have made up their mind to buy S5 IS :-
Please check out yourself the results in auto mode with full zoom. And remember, don't get fooled by the LCD ! The LCD is 2.5' & very bright, so the brightness of the image will reduce once u download it & see it on the monitor ! First get yourself satisfied & then go for it ! Anyway, Canon is definetly better than Sony / Olympus. In relative terms, S5 IS may be better amongst the bad. But then, U can't call it good ! Can U ?

THE BAD THINGS :
1) The performance of the camera in auto or pre-set modes is thoroughly disappointing. **The camera should be used only in manual mode. As the auto mode is of no use, many features like scene modes, color accent, color swap, stitch assist, continuous shooting of fast moving ...Read more

The images from a 3MP or even 1.3 MP mobile camera are much better than S5 iS as far as brightness is concerned ! And with the 4 AA Ni-Mh batteries, its very heavy !

Have U used the camera in auto / pre-set mode? Try using it in scene mode with 12X otical zoom & U will change ur views about pic. quality. U will get dull, washed-out pics! The very purpose of a high zoom is defeated. 3X optical zoom cameras are available at half the price !Then U will say there is... the manual mode. But if only manual mode is to be used, then features in auto mode like color swap, color accent, stitch assist, continuous shooting of fast moving objects cannot be used at all ! The only good thing is the fantastic video mode with crisp stereo sound. In short, S5 IS is a great camcorder, but a bad high zoom camera.Read More
