Imagine that you are married to a person who finds your fault at the drop of a hat. Well, you would call it 'Ghar Ghar ki Kahaani', would you not? Well, keep reading. Your spouse accuses you of neglect and indifference if you simply get late for a dinner date. You are trying to have an affair simply if you speak to a person of the opposite sex. You will be shouted at if you complain about these 'small aberrations', and if you keep tolerating them they will go on increasing in frequency and intensity. Your spouse could be a shop-aholic and keep sending credit card bills through the roof. Irrespective of the gender the spouse could be an alcoholic, chain smoker or drug addict, and might even indulge in promiscuous sex. However, if you try to leave this person and get on with your life, he or she could beg for one last chance, something that will never come. As a last reasort, this person could resort to emotional blackmail, even by making a suicide attempt(without actually succeeding). Your ordeal may go on and on in a never-ending cycle. If you are facing this scenario, your common refrain would be that you are trapped in a bad marriage. Be warned-- there could be more to it. Often this indicates an underlying psychological disorder, most commonly a PERSONALITY DISORDER. You would be well advised to consult a practising psychologist along with a decent lawyer. I will continue about a commonly encountered Personality Disorder, viz. Borderline Personality Disorder in my next blog.
