What Happens to unserviceable Components Removed and Retained by MNCs from your Appliances

Have you ever wondered why MNCs take away the unserviceable parts when they repair your appliances? You pay for the new part yet your own old/repairable part is taken away by the company. Why? Some companies like Samsung want you to retain the unserviceable part to prevent it being re-sold to you after repairs. But the technician carrying out repairs often requests for it and you oblige. And presto, the next customer buys a reconditioned part from the Service Centers.

Others like IFB insists on retaining the unserviceable part though there is no written policy on the same. And they refuse to respond and explain under which clause they take old, replaced item which would otherwise fetch some price. The IFB office in Mumbai took away motor of my washing machine even when I paid full amount for the new one.

Always insist on retaining the old part to prevent its misuse. Who knows you may be paying for an reconditioned item next time.
