Be clear about your priorities first and then go about finishing the tasks one by one

We all have dreams. We have goals that inspire. We have secret heights we want to climb. But to do that we need to organise ourselves. Most of the time, we find that we are not able to finish our work or the task on hand. One way of optimising our output intelligently is to get organised.

How do we do that? It is not as difficult as it sounds. It just needs some planning. List out your commitments in life: Family, work, leisure, vacations, routine work and even rest. Ask yourself how much time each deserves. List it down.

Then draw an execution plan that is realistic and achievable. There are some tasks that need immediate attention. Some can wait, some are routine. Few of us have all the time in the world. Most of us find 24 hours a day too short, as we want to do so many things. For this, we need to juggle multiple tasks and activities within a constrained timetable.

As you work your priority list, try to design it in such a way that you are doing a variety of things and will not become a victim of boredom. Changing your tasks helps to re-stimulate your mind and bring in fresh ideas. It is very crucial to fix a focus on each task or we may end up running all over the place.

A to-do-list is essential as it helps you see the tasks ahead in perspective. Often, people get unnecessarily stressed out thinking of the enormity of the work they have to finish when actually most of them are not on priority and can wait. The to-do-list helps you remember what needs to be done first, second and third and also how to do it

Fix deadlines. Then strike. Later on, evaluate your progress. Are you meeting your deadlines? If not on schedule, redraw the plan to put it back on rails. If you extend deadlines, it will become a habit. Backlogs make enthusiasm fizzle out.

Put up notes to remind you of what had to be finished. Keep ticking your checklist as each task gets completed. Congratulate yourself if you cracked it on time.

Finishing work demands discipline. Fight distraction. Tell yourself that it is work time and it is sacred. If you feel mentally tired, take a short break. Energise and get back to work. Most people get into frenzied activity wanting to convince themselves and the world that they are busy. But they do not achieve much as the whole stress is on being occupied and not on achieving what you want. So, concentrate on the results.

It is best to write out a detailed monthly plan. Then, break it into a weekly one. Then, break it into a daily one. You know exactly what you are doing when. It is a good idea to have it written down as it is a reminder that has the potential to haunt you if you are not disciplined. Set aside a few minutes everyday at the same time to review the day gone past and the day to come. Break free of any negate Organise yourself to achieve your goals day when you are raring to go.
