What is happening to this world!

A bomb blast in Guwahati that took more than 170 innocent lives; a fundamentalist driving peaceloving Marathis to attack north Indians looking for their livelihood; North Indians in return decided to burn a few railway coaches to lodge their protest -- the list can go on endlessly. And of course I have not mentioned the goriest ones like attack on world trade center or America's carpet bombing of Afghanisthan.

While it is easy to blame everything on dirty politicians, somehow I am drawn to a different line of thought. It seems, the destiny has unwittedly decided to handover the future of this planet on human race and humanity has miserably failed in the process. We never stop of singing praises about our scientific development but what it has ultimately achieved is polluting the nature, quickly diminishing the natural resources and serving as a tool in the hand of powerful minority in exploiting the majority. Yes I know some will talk about aeroplane and IT but ---- please! tell me what these developments have ment for humanity as a whole? On the other hand, its ill effects like pollution or vulnerability to lethal weopons is maximum for the poors and exploited of this world.

In my college days, while studying sociology I came across the concept of 'cultural lag' which generally means the disproporrtionate progress in one area of over life in respect to others. For example, a child who is developed physically but not intellectually will end up thrashing his parents for chockolates. Similarly it seems we have developed technologically but not emotionally and spiritually. Thus, we are still born with alsmost the same savage instinctincts that we used to 5000 years back but our weopons are no longer stones and axes but bombs and missiles. And the result is for all to see!

Occasionally we have persons like Jesus, Gandhi or Buddha to remind us the potential that lies in all of us but evolution will take enormous time for taking the entire humanity to their level. And the way we are going, it is almost certain that we will end up destroying the world much before the arrival of that time.
