The Test of Intelligence

Nov 16, 2017 06:10 PM General 177 Views

Till a few years back, I had no particular inclination towards issues relating to nature or environment. Of course, I was vaguely aware of the issues like pollution, global warming and effect of harmful chemicals but I always felt that there are enough people to deal with these subjects. It is total...Read more

Came back to the site after ages and the recent judgement in favour of the parents made the subject relevant once more. You are right when you pointed out in one of your comments that the movie generally speaks to and for the middle class who are also the target audience. However, these days we a...re witnessing a similar drama in which a bus conductor was convicted (almost) of a heinous crime with questionable motive. This incidence is worse than the Arushi murder case as their the error is result of incompetence, here it is deliberate. But it is not likely that someone will make a movie on that subject as the victim in the instant case does not belong to someone we can identify ourselves with.Read More

Satyamev Jayate ! Really ?

Sep 25, 2015 11:50 PM

You explored Satyam adequately but ..... A beautiful blog on a very relevant subject. You are so right in pointing out the injustice faced by children, especially in India. But I personally would not dispute the word 'always' and for finding its reason may be we will have to look at what we reall...y mean by 'Jayate' or victory. Souls like Gandhi and Vivekananda were very much a part of this conceit full world but they also emerged victorious. Once again my complements for a wonderful post. SandeepRead More

The More, The Merrier

Sep 25, 2015 11:39 PM General 302 Views

Today I had the entire day to myself as it was a holiday with my wife and kid away to a relative's place. So it was one of those days which was just perfect for turning pages of some of my old favourites. I decided to give chuckle and smile a chance and first plunged into stylish prose of Wodehou...Read more

Mid eighties and early nineties was the time I formed my idols for life. I think I should start by giving a brief account of who they were. In soccer, pocket sized Maradona brought the whole world down with his magical left foot in 1986, in cricket a lad from Haryana decided to play ‘angry young...Read more

Beautiful review of a fine book. I read it recently and liked it in totality though I won't say I liked or agree with Agassi's worldview. I also expected some more details of his tennis encounters and analysis of game of his contemporaries. Still an excellent review! Sandeep

The book is marvellous! Ishiguro is one of those writers who lives by the adage 'most important words are unsaid!'. Explore him further - his 'Remains of the Day' too is high class writing.

Of Dr 'Kamaal' and Karma !!

Aug 05, 2015 03:47 PM (Updated Aug 05, 2015 03:48 PM)

Valid points but ..... 'I am a great admirer of hard work till someone else does it!' Coming to the point - if someone is passionate about work and die while doing it - what is there to complain? After all Dr. Kalam was only sharing his wisdom to the generation next and not involved in anything phy...sically straining - all the grandfathers are fond of doing that only to a smaller audience. The quotation from Gita is definitely misused for later Sri Krsna defined what is 'Karma' and what is not and most of our conception of work will not match with it. I think we have the freedom to choose how we want to spend the twilight of our life - waiting on our bed for the inevitable to come or live in the present and find meaning in it. @jmathur: But may be Dr Kalam was exactly doing what he liked - it only seem as work to the bystanders.
