This time it is different! We were used to watching half clad poors dying on street of bomb blast, train accident, hunger, desease, suicide ---- (you name it) but this time even the high and mighty of our society are feeling the pinch which were thus far reserved for 'Aam Admi' who are relevant only for statistical purpose in the shining India. At least the terrorists have succeeded in creating their variety of socialism - equality in vulnerability to death and destruction.
And this has forced my favourite film star, the mighty Big B, to bring out his revolver (of course licensed), load it and keep undeneath the pillow. Ratan Tata is anguished (justifiably) about the security arrangements. Of course one can understand lack of security for common North Indians in Mumbai but this happening to such distinguished class of citizens - unthinkable.
Exactly for these reasons I have a gut feeling that Government response is going to be different this time. This attack has rudely shaken the priviledged class - and while killings in Guwahati (300 plus of ORDINARY CITIZEN) did nothing to awaken ou political bosses, this one may finally awaken them.
I Hope. Because we do not have security men at our gates or a licesnsed revolver undrneath our pillow.
