The Wednesday-26th November 2008, had been a wonderful day till the evening. I was stressed out with work but quite content with my day’s output. Once I had returned from office, I made it a point that window.google_render_ad(); window.google_render_ad(); I chill out with some hot coffee… with a mug full of coffee, I switched on my television and sunk into my couch to relax at around 9-45 p.m
... Oh what a dreadful sight was it…for few seconds I could not believe what I saw on the television screen….
Even Now, as I think back, I feel horrified. As News flashed several times on television screens: “Terrorist attack on Mumbai”, “War on Mumbai” and so on, I almost succumbed. If I had been so severely traumatized by mere sight of it on screen, can you even imagine what had been the feel of the people who faced it or who stayed inside the closed doors in the same city quite uncertain about their own selves.
Relentless killings of hundreds and thousands of people in India and around the world are the talk of the day. But Terror attacks are not new. Since 1970- till date India has been hit 4011 times by terrorists (source: CNNIBN). But our government in these 28 years, with constant rise in number of terror strikes, has maintained solidarity in not being active and enthusiastic about stopping the murderers….this is where we belong to and this is how the people’s representatives treat their people. Indeed it is a golden fruit of the world’s largest democracy.
In fact what more can you expect from our leaders, when a chief minister turns derogatory on a young and brave Martyr. Proud with his own political position he dares to be offensive to Major Sandeep. So, blind is he in his own political exuberance and so confidant is he in his wrongly built hold on power that he dares to insult a martyr, a brave soul who lost his own life while confronting the terrorists. And who comments on Sandeep, an octogenarian V. S. Achuthanandan, who carries Z security lest he may die. He, who himself is so scared of death at this ripe age comments on an National Hero’s family, the family who has taught their son to protect his motherland before himself. Should we still stop ourselves from uprooting such leaders? Think.
Major Sandeep UnniKrishnan is a martyr, so is Hemant Karkare, Vijay Salaskar, Ashok Kamte and all others, who have fought with courage in the face of death. Similarly, on September 19th our brave Inspector MC Sharma who led the Delhi encounter, succumbed to injuries when Terrorists had fired at him during the encounter. But do this news really make sense to the leaders, our political torchbearers? Perhaps not because they know that they are safe in government custody but it should matter to us- because we are not safe…Nowhere.
Our Martyrs had everything that our leaders don’t. And most unfortunately, we chose the leaders ourselves to work as our ministers. Should we not be ashamed of ourselves by now? But we have paid off for all our wrong judgement. We have lost enough lives and now it’s time that we retaliate. Let’s join hands first to make our politicians learn a lesson from us. Let’s take a pledge to demoralize the entire group of corrupt statesman. We are no more safe: be it with the fanatic killers or with our distrustful leaders. Let us be our shields ourselves.
Let us take a pledge to fight corruption, defeat wrong means, support our citizens, eliminate the forces which spread hatred and declare war against terrorism. Let us all come together, join our hands and say: Jai Hind.
