With a significant presence in India, ICSE is a CISCE-governed board of education. It is present basically in urban areas where the demand for English-medium schools is higher. Schools affiliated with ICSE are often known for their high academic standard and focus on the English language. Whereas, CBSE, a widely affiliated board of education, is known for its strong network that covers all the Kendriya Vidyalayas, all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, and all small and big private schools approved by the government of India. It covers almost all major urban cities and rural areas.

ICSE provides a detailed syllabus, majorly focusing on languages, arts, and science. The board is well known for its rigorous English language training, which is more standard than any other education board in India, whereas CBSE is known for its structured and well-rounded curriculum developed by NCERT, which primarily focuses on science and mathematics. It is more concentrated and highly favourable for the students aiming to clear the IIT JEE and NEET examinations.

ICSE examination for class 10th and ISC examination for class 12th are known for their comprehensiveness and difficulty. They are specially designed to test students’ depth of knowledge and understanding, and their ability to express themselves more concisely. The questions asked in the exams need a detailed answer to evaluate the depth of students' knowledge. Whereas in CBSE,  the examination manner is more standardised and conducts two main exams- the All India Secondary School Examination, and at the end of classes 10th and 12th, the All India Senior School Certificate Examination. Both exams are designed to evaluate the understanding of concepts studied in the class and students’ ability to prove their skills to apply the same to multiple concepts. But sometimes it leads to significant pressure and stress for students. 

ICSE focuses on English as the only medium of instruction to develop students’ strong English speaking and writing skills. It helps students face no difficulty while going abroad to pursue higher education. Whereas CBSE uses both Hindi and English as its medium of instruction due to their wider presence. In some areas, students feel more comfortable in Hindi than in English as the medium of instruction.

The ICSE syllabus is considered more difficult than the CBSE syllabus as it covers more topics and provides a detailed concept of every subject. Students need to understand the topic clearly to do well in the exams. Whereas, the CBSE curriculum is quite easy and primarily focuses on subjects like science and mathematics. Whereas the CBSE schools provide a range of scholarships of different amounts. They conduct several exams, and aim to discover exceptional talent deserving of the scholarships. This helps weaker and deserving students get scholarships. 

The ICSE is known for its comprehensive and detailed syllabus that allows students to have in-depth knowledge of every subject, which helps them achieve their future goals. Also, there is a special focus on the English language to build confidence in the students and help in their overall growth. But the major drawback of a detailed syllabus is that students find it difficult to cover everything while preparing for exams. Also, the rigorous nature of the ICSE exams may be challenging for students with diverse learning styles. 

The CBSE board is known for its several advantages. Its well-rounded and standardized curriculum prepares students for competitive exams and maintains consistency in education. Its curriculum is specially designed to be less exhaustive compared to other boards. But, focus on streamlining and standardization primarily focuses on core subjects, which sometimes weakens the understanding of other subjects like English, History, and Arts.
