Urmila - An Actress with a difference. Review on Urmila Matondkar

Urmila Matondkar, an actress who started her journey as a child actor, then tried making her mark thru simple sweet characters in Drohi , Narsimha and Chamatkar. When the audience falied to notice her in those roles , she came back with a new look and style in ''Rangeela'', which made her the hottest girl on the block. Ofcourse it was all thanks to Ram Gopal Varma and Manish Manholtra. After ''Rangeela'' everyone wanted to capture her sensual image again and again , as very few noticed that she was not just hot in Rangeela , but she delivered a good performance as well. It was a good move to choose ''Judaai''with Sridevi as her next release. And 10 on 10 for the performance she delivered in the different frames with Sridevi. Though she tried to do different roles , going forward , media brought her to limelight only when she was pretty hot on screen like ''Daud'' ,''Mast'' and ''Jaanam Samjha Karo''. Then came ''Satya'' , were she took the audience for surprise with her simple looks and small but powerful role. It was followed by movies like ''Pyar Tune Kya Kiya'' and ''Kaun''. Then, she was looked upon as a serious actress who could deliver when handled well. Fate of the movies on Box Office was never her criteria when she decided on movie. That's exactly why though her movies were not doing good at Box Office, she was still offered Khalid Mohammed's ''Tehzeeb'', Ram Gopal Varma's '' Bhoot'' and Dr. ChandrPrakash D.'s ''Pinjar''. With these 3 movies she proved that she was one actress you can count on, if you are looking for an actor and not star. Last year ''Ek Hasina Thi'' just re-confirmed her steady growth as an actress. Though her recent movies ''Banaras" , ''Naina'' and ''Bas Ek Pal''didn't do well at the box office, she still stood out as a actress in these movies. Probably after some great work in Pinjar and Ek Hasina Thi audience were expecting more from her, but again a good performance is a combination of a good actor, good script and a good director. Not sure what's in store for urmila in the near future , what I know for sure is , urmila will deliver the goods everytime she gets a good script.
