Plot:

Performance:

Music:

Cinematography:

The story of the film is its USP, but the screenplay appeals in spurts. A few individualistic sequences do impress, but the film has its share of loopholes with too many songs and slow pace especially in the first half.

But the narrative gathers momentum in the latter reels and the climax is sure to catch the viewer unaware. The ending is in fact the best part of the film and sure to linger in your memory much after the show is over..J .P Dutta's direction comes to the fore in the last hour.

Music is a major asset. . Lyrically, 'Bitiyan' is the best song in the enterprise – in fact it's amongst the best poetic numbers heard in the recent years.

Dialogues are outstanding. It wouldn't be wrong to state that they are the soul of the film. Cinematography is good.

Aishwarya does a confident job. She emotes her part convincingly. She looks photogenic . Abhishek lends class to his role. Shabana steals the show. Her presence elevates the second half of the film considerably.

overall Umrao JAAN is a fairly engrossing fare.
