Unique Show Full of Surprises

Look & Feel:

I heard Karan Johar is hosting a new show called the Traitors, an Indian remake of a popular reality show. I straight away tuned in. Remember playing Mafia as a kid? This show is just that. Among a group of 20 members, 3 random, undisclosed participants are traitors who convince the innocent that they are not. The innocent have to find the real traitors and ensure nobody from their group is eliminated. This is a unique concept and a fun game. However, I was excited to see how it unfolds when celebs are trapped inside a mansion for a winning prize.

The shows format is deceptively simple but clever. Participants have to perform different tasks every day which helps them find out who is who. However, this also leads to more misunderstandings and tensions. The Traitors is filmed at the opulent Suryagarh Palace in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and the location is nothing short of breathtaking. The palace just adds to the aesthetics of the show. I was tired of watching the same old roadies and x-factor with nothing new and exciting. The moment this show begins, you are lost in that world. The setting is not just a backdrop; its a character in itself, heightening the drama.

I love how the show has managed to pick the top celebs in the country. From veteran actors and youtubers to influencers, there is everyone. Names like Anshula Kapoor, Maheep Kapoor, Jannat Zubair keep the conversations interesting. My favorite among all is comedian Harsh Gujral, who plays really smart and keeps adding his unfiltered humor. There was also a lot of controversy behind Raj Kundras casting, but he has been playing well too. There are tense roundtable discussions every night, which are the best part of this show.

I have watched the first three episodes and it has already been very exciting. Whats on the stake is a 1 crore rupees cash prize that the winner will take home. Therefore, everybody is fighting their heart out to stay in. An innocent player is either eliminated after the discussion or killed(eliminated by the traitors). You know whos who, which is fun. The contestants are not afraid to play dirty. They accuse, lie, and do whatever to stay in the competition. I feel this reality show feels more natural and passionate than other shows which look plainly scripted.

However, not everything is perfect. The pacing and editing could have been better as each episode lasts more than 70 minutes. The overly dramatic music sometimes makes everything look fake. However, the way this show is progressing, it is only set to get more interesting. As clever participants eliminate others, the competition is going to be even more fierce. Also, I wish these guys stick to Hindi. A lot of times everything is done in English, which might not be suitable for everyone. Karan as a host is decent and perfectly suitable for the role. I cant wait for the next episodes!
