2 movies up for Diwali / Islamic New Year – JTHJ & Son of Sardar, both fighting for screen space & mind space. Had reviewed JTHJ already. Today is the turn of SOS.
This movie could not have been more different from JTJH. The basic concept is taken from a Telugu film Maryada Ramanna but the details have been tweaked enough to give it a different flavor. The main casts are Ajay Devgan & Sanjay Dutt whose ancestral rivalries spill over to their lives but Ajay is willing to forgive whereas Sanjay is not. Their female counterparts are Sonakshi & Juhi. The movie is a roller coaster ride of fun – first starting from London(what is it about London? every film seems to be made there now a days) & then moving to Punjab where Ajay gets a call from the Government to accept compensation for land which he did not know existed till then.
Sanjay has a principle of not harming his guests within the house precincts & the entire film thereon revolves around this theme till all ends well. If JTHJ was a serious film with a dab of tears here & there, SOS was a fun riot with men and women alike laughing & hooting most of the time. Sonakshi has grown as an actor with each film, Ajay fits into the role of Sardar very well, and other cast is ok. Salman makes a special appearance including for the song at the end. Songs are already popular & got the people tapping their feet in the hall. All in all worth watching even for somebody like me who has seen the original film in another language.
