Recently, last Sunday(10/4/16), I had a very bad experience travelling in an ola cab(CRN216131871). My wife and myself, hired an ola cab from King Circle, Mumbai for Tejpal auditorioum in Gowalia Tank. It was a grey color Ertiga cab and the driver: Sushil Ghodke.


Normally, I keep my mobile in my pocket, but on this unfortunate ride, I was holding the phone in my hand and when we reached the destination, I put the phone aside to look for a change and got off the cab, forgetting the mobile in the cab.


When I called my nephew, he told me that if it's ola cab, I should not worry and call up Ola Support and they would take care of it. I called up Ola and reported the matter providing all the details. I went ahead and watched the drama.


Later, I called up my phone number from my wife's mobile and the phone was ringing.


I tried it again in 2-3 minutes and the phone was ringing again. This was all within 10 - 15 minutes after leaving the cab.


My feeling is that in this time frame, there is a little possibility of any other rider getting in the cab. If that is true, the driver must have realized, when the phone was ringing that I had forgotten the mobile in the cab.


Now, all he had to do was park the cab at a suitable location, get hold of the mobile and switch it off or even remove the sim card and completely deactivate the phone.


After about an hour or so, during interval in the drama, when I tried to dial my number, I got the message that the phone is switched off. I realized that now there was little possibility of getting the phone back. But, I tried to call OLA support and they kept saying that they will do their best to locate and will get back with me.


On reaching home after about 4 hours, I tried again and was told that the driver did not find any mobile.


I wish there was a CCTV camera in the cab and had that been the case, the driver would have more than likely returned the mobile, but since that was not true, there was no witness to see that he had possibly got hold of the mobile from the back seat of the cab.


I have tried to send emails to ola and they keep defending their driver and I requested to let me have the emails of higher management but they have not provided me that information.


So, I am sending this message to the public and hopefully management of ola to take precautions in case you happen to leave your mobile in an ola or other cab and immediately try to lock your phone by accessing your account rather than trusting that ola will live up to their reputation. They have to trust the drivers that they hire and they may not necessarily be honest.


In the process, I have not only lost my mobile which was fairly expensive and used only few months but also a lot of my data. It was unfortunate for me and I request others to be careful and not repeat what I did and take steps to lock the phone immediately.


I am conveying this message as a moral responsibility.
