Probably the reason I would not exactly rate Bangkok as good family getaway is I happened to visit it on the last leg of my visit to cities like Singapore & Kualalumpur .
The weather is a more like tropical east India ...read Kolkata and the skyline and traffic resemble more of a crowded Indian city and it isnt too clean or pleasing to the eye.More of a 3rd world kind of feeling ....probably a day and night diiference compared to Singapore.
I faced major problems in communicating as English is not much in use. Staff at the airport, immigration,hotel at money exchange counters are pretty much indifferent and cold in attitude compared to either Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.Its not just my personal observation we were ten of us on the trip...all agreed.
Funny thing ... at Bangkok one has to pay departure tax. Departure tax? No such phenomenon ive encountered elsewhere.
Well probably the most overrated thing according to me is a Thai Massage.Ok women do it here is the USP ..but Id prefer our excellent home malishwala anyday...well if its sophistication youre in for ..try Kerela massage instead.

Fantastic shopping.....Electronics at Pantip Plaza .
.Garments Luggage etc at Pratunuam Market. The rates are too good to be true.
