If you are not sure where to spend your day then you can surely visit athirapilly. It is 47 kilometers from aluva. You can see the waterfall from the top. Also you can enjoy water from the down also can shower in it. At the top there are water trapped between rocks so that you can spend time in that water with your family.
The forests will give you a pleasure full as well as greeny experience. Since it does not require a long drive you will not get tired. There is a little bit walk to the waterfall with trees on both sides. The ticket rate is only 30 rupees for one person. So budget is also low. Since it is a tourist place you can see lot of tourists crowded there.
