Even though I know next-to-nothing about medicine, I still found this book nearly impossible to put down. It has all the elements off a good murder mystery, and is Michael Crighton at his best.
I simply couldn't put this book down. I sat up until 4am, unable to rest until I discovered the answer to the puzzle of who performed that operation! It was a fascinating book, which provided real insight into American medicine in the 1960's.
The story revolves around John Berry, a pathologist, whose close friend and colleague, Art Lee, is made the scapegoat of a botched-up abortion. Temporarily swapping his doctor's coat for a detective's jacket, John embarks upon a dangerous mission to unmask the real abortionist and discover the lengths at which are willing to go to cover their tracks.
