How can one select only 20 songs out of an oceanfull of great rock songs. A person who has been listening to rock music for atleast 4-5 years will find it immensely difficult to take out 20 best songs.
I have dared to challenge the might of these legendary rock bands, and take out only 20 songs. I can say, this is purely my list and it is based on the songs I like. I think everyone has his own taste and donot think most of you will like it.
Another thing, unlike my other reviews, I will not be writing about each song in much detail as the space is less.
Anyways, here is the list:
*1. Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple*
The song that put Deep Purple as a class act. Listen to the opening guitar solo and then check for the rhythm. You will like it.
*2. Paranoid - Black Sabbath*
Nearly every rocker's favourite, this song remains in the chart even after more than three decades of its release. Check out for the riffs created by base guitar in this song.
*3. Nothing Else Matters - Metallica*
Nominated for best song of the year 1990 in the Grammy awards, my list would have been incomplete without this masterpiece. Check out for the change in Hetfield's voice from soft and low to a growl and loud.
*4. With Arms wide open - Creed*
The song that changed Creed's career. Released in 2000, this song created history. Listen to the grunge created by Stapp's voice in the song.
*5. Symphony of destruction - Megadeth*
If Hammet can play Master of puppets, Mustaine can create it in Symphony of Destruction. Listen to the typical Megadeth kind of guitar interlude.
*6. The battle of Evermore - Led Zeppelin*
I rate this one just above *Stairway to heaven* only because of its opening guitar solo. A must listen.
*7. Money - Pink Floyd*
Taken from the album *Dark Side of the Moon*, this song remains my favourite Floyd song. Listen to Gilmour's guitar alongwith Saxophone.
*8. Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits*
One of the best romantic song ever written. Listen to the deep voice of Mark Knopfler.
*9. Thunderstruck - AC/DC*
A marvellous guitar rhythm provided by the legendary Agnus Young.
*10. Winds of change - Scorpions*
The biggest success for Scorpions. Listen to this song for the classy composition and donot forget to praise Klaus Maine for his whistle
*11. Knocking on Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan*
After so many cover versions, this song is still the best one to listen to. Listen to Dylans voice.
*12. Come as you are - Nirvana*
A perfect example of grunge rock. Listen this song for Cobain's vocals and effective use of bass guitar.
*13. The trooper - Iron Maiden*
A war number from Iron Maiden. Listen to if for its excellent guitar rhythm.
*14. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen*
Rated as the *most heard song* by BBC, this song is an excellent example of fusion of rock and symphony.
*15. Jeremy - Pearl Jam*
Taken from the album *Ten*, this song is a must listen for grunge rock lovers.
*16. I would do anything for love - MeatLoaf*
Very few rock songs have effective use of Piano. This one has. Listen to the starting piece of piano.
*17. Light My Fire - The Doors*
In the very first time, this song can sound a bit irritating to the ears, but afer continuous listening, it will occupy a place in your mind which will be lifelong. Must listen for all the psychaelic rock fanatics.
*18. Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones*
Rated as the best rock song of the last millenium, this song is a must listen for all the rock lovers. I mean how can a person who is into rock, skip The Rolling Stones.
*19. Jump - Van Halen*
A typical but beautiful Van Halen song. Listen to the starting mix of keyboards, guitars and drums. Its really melodious.
*20. Cats in the Cradle - Ugly Kid Joe*
Though a cover version, this song is a beautiful song. With all teh three scales used(Low Middle and High), this song is a difficult song sung with ease.
I apologize to all of you for not including your favourite songs in the list. I am thankful to all the bands listed here for giving us such a fabulous music.**
