23rd

Started in full josh as it was our long ride for the first time and other 3 guys had told their parents its Indica cab they are going in :P and I was alone at home and didn't inform my parents til wednesday that 'm in coorg, when they were coming back from mysore :D

Rode less than 40-45kmph till kengeri, as we were talking and going. It was Ayudha Pooja day, so traffic was very less!

From mysore rd we rode less than 60kmph as till bidadi lot of speed breakers and people will be crossing over. And as all of us know mysore road is amazing except for a stretch or two in towns like mandya..! Stopped at some roadside open air restaurant after 50km from Bangalore for breakfast, where ‘Tatte idli’ was so delicious!! Next stop was in Mc.D in chennapatna to clean ourselves!

From now we maintained 85-90kmph as we were too slow till then! After mandya-jyoti international hotel which is at the end of mandya we started ripping and didn’t go less than 110. Here I touched 144kmph! Within 25min we reached mysore. Before Colombia Asia there is a board- Madikeri-129km which is through Mysore ORR.

I knew it would be more distance from there, so we entered city and took Hunsur rd after Maharaja Circle.

Road from here is mind-blowing, even the curves. It is patchy but its not at all bumpy!

As we reached Kushal Nagar it was getting cooler!

Again the road from here to madikeri is exceptional, very wide infact! Good sceneries too! Around 12.15pm we reached madikeri and called our homestay Owner- Mr Sunil. And we reached home stay by 12.30.

If you have any plans of touring Coorg, I swear this is the best economical place for you to stay! House was very clean, with 1 bedroom with 1 double bed and 2 single beds, kitchen, bathroom, living room with TV(small), big balcony and parking! It was just INR 300 per person per day(without food)! Contact no is given at the end of this travelogue.

By 1.30pm we got refreshed had lunch in Choice hotel and started to Abbi falls which is infact nothing great! Road there is narrow and bad, tar has worn out and its full ‘dankanaka’ ride :D By 4.30pm we were in Raja’s seat, which was very near to our home stay!

Around 9.30am we started to kushal nagar and visited golden temple. We didn’t take the normal route which usually people from madikeri take. We went to Indian Oil for premium petrol(for Duke) which is the only premium petrol dealer for the whole of madikeri and kushal nagar! This entrance next to this petrol bunk has awesome roads than the usual one, but a bit longer. Next we left for Dubbare. The 10km stretch from main road is again bad! We went rafting there, relaxed in water , had lunch around 4.30pm and rushed to homestay upon word from some persons in the water that its final day of Dasara and all the Madikeri roads will be blocked after 6pm! But police blocked the roads at 5pm itself, n we were not let in as our vehicles weren’t KA-12 registered!! Luckily some biker of our age AKASH, a local guy and a influencial one passed by me and I asked him for route to Convent junction. He talked to the police but they told they cant allow other vehicles but KA-12!! He took us through some other inside route where within 5 min we climbed and got down a hill to see our homestay just next to it!

We walked to view that night which is the biggest celebration over there. 99% of them were drunk, many fallen on streets. Even police couldn’t speak properly :D A Police officer told us not to leave earlier than 9am next day as it would be full of traffic jam!

Here came the dreadful day!

We had planned to visit KRS dam and then back to Bangalore. But since abbi falls was a disappointment and dubbare wasn’t ‘that’ pleasing and chilling we decided to visit Irupu falls which is 82km from madikeri. Me and Craig rode the whole distance as Anil is not good at such kinda roads and Asim doesn’t ride. We started by 10.40am and by 12pm we had just covered 24km. We were pissed to death as we were in empty stomach and it was scorching hot! Had lunch in Virajpet. Road was good only at few places for abt 1-2kms where we ripped. The last 25km is again deadly- narrow with curves. We rode @80-90kmph! At one point just before 1km frm the falls u will be able to view the falls from the top where we took pics. By 2.30pm we reached there.

Irupu falls is small but is strong. The force it falls with is so awesome and we were happy as we were sick of riding in bad roads.

We started back to mysore around 4.30pm in those bad roads for about 50-60km. on our way we spotted a Hyosung HT 7 who is from Indira nagar, Bangalore(KA 05 NT 3843) He is Rajesh CP and a MD of some company. I requested and stopped him, talked, took pics and he told us to follow him! He stopped at Café Coffee Coorg in hunsur rd and treated us with coffee! Though the road till hunsur rd was bad we followed and went on continuously 35-45kmph. And our bikes didn’t give any prob! Thank god.

Reached Bangalore @ 12.30 in the night!

The duke service guy in Indira Nagar had told Craig that it can be taken upto 2000km at a stretch which no one does. Mr. Rajesh told that since its just a 9 inch radiator we must stop every hour for 15-20min! He had a very vast knowledge of bikes! He owned a hayabusa (his friends)before, imported from Saudi.

Mainly this ride was to test our Naked bikes NS and Duke in long rides as they are not meant for it.

Luckily it never rained for us, for which I’d put the tyre hugger :P which used to shake most of the time due to bad roads over there.

FE of NS: 35+kms as we ripped almost every time we found good roads.

Cost: INR 2500 per person (incl. everything).

Contact of home stay: Mr. Sunil Mohandas- 9448504735.

As Kusumakar said in his travelogue its very difficult to ride in the night with tinted visor of LS2, but if we maintain distance behind lorries and make our eyes small and ride while dust is hitting, , its managable! :)

SUGGESTION: If u wanna see a better hill station, please visit Wayanad. Roads are like F1 track Rajeev_Vermacially from Wayanad to Calicut!! and coorg roads are the worst ever. atleast chikmaglur has got better roads except for few stretches while Habbe falls road is 'One of its kind'!! :)
