My baby just turned 6 months and I thought it is time to put my thoughts in words!We first visited cloud nine in late 2010, then Cradle and met Dr. Prakash Kini as we were planning our baby. I weighed a bit on the heavier side which made the thought of pregnancy quite scary. He just said “Start losing your weight dear and keep trying.” I had never been inspired more in my life to lose weight. In the meantime I was also found to have PCOS. Dr. Kini instilled the confidence in me that everything was okay and put me on metformin tablets. In a matter of 6 months I lost a good 12.5 kgs which by itself was an amazing experience.
I conceived in July 2011 and since I had PCOS, doctor put me on metformin and progesterone tablets for the entire first trimester. I have heard many people ask if these tablets are safe for the mother and the baby. My personal experience says these tablets are absolutely SAFE, both for the mother and the baby. In fact I think the initial trimester is extremely important and these medicines helped me build a strong fetus.
Then came the first scan at 6 weeks. The scan was done by Dr. Surekha who was very sweet. This was the first time we heard the heart beats and what a feeling that was! She was the one to do the anomaly scan at 22 weeks and she pointed to us the tiny face, fingers and toes with hands, feet, thighs and we had images from the scan on a dvd.
With Dr. Kini guiding us and by God’s grace, the pregnancy was without complications and I was nearing the due date. Every fortnight visit to the doctor and the heartbeats on the Doppler kept assuring us that everything was fine. Here, I should mention the one day workshop conducted by cloud nine at Taj Gateway which I attended in my last trimester. It was a memorable and learning experience.
My due date was 5th of April. By end of March we were visiting the doctor every week. My baby had decided not to descend and the due date of 5th April passed. Finally on the 7th April, Dr. Kini said he will do a Cesarean section on the morning of 9th April. On the 9th, while I was being taken to the OT, I was quite nervous but once I saw the calmness and smile on Dr.Kini’s face, I was fine. Since the anesthesiologist could not find the spine, they gave me a general anesthesia. It was a decision taken spontaneously and the entire OT staff was up-to it. Their preparedness for anything impressed us.
Our bundle of joy arrived in this world!! As for the recovery, Dr.Kini made sure I climbed the stairs for 2 floors the next morning. He is quite famous for this :). He ensured that the recovery was super fast and without problems.
Here, I would like to make a special mention of the nursing staff and the food provided during the 3 day stay at cloud nine. The nursing staff was prompt, dedicated and most importantly friendly. They never made me feel uncomfortable in any which way. The food for the 3 days was very balanced, nutritious, fresh and tasty!
I have to add a few words about Dr. Prakash Kini here. He is a man of few words but very effective words. He made sure we did not worry about anything. For those who think he does not talk much or does not like too many questions.... I feel he just does not want to worry the patient with unnecessary information which is really good. The confidence he instills in a patient is amazing. If you are going to Dr. Prakash Kini, trust him blindly and you will not regret. He made our experience at cloud nine all the more amazing. I am yet to meet a doctor who is as confident, precise and as good as Dr. Prakash Kini is. He is the only one to go to if you are looking at less medicines and a super fast recovery.
