In a city where palates are usually numbed with an overdose of spice, it is nice to find a truly authentic Italian restaurant, and so what if it comes at a price?
At the rear end of the Taj President, Mumbai, Trattoria is where you will find a delectable Italian ambience. Complete with an all Italian menu. (Fortunately, the English translations lend a semblance of familiarity to things.)
Delicately flavoured rissotto (a creamy, cheesy rice dish), melt-in-your-mouth garlic rolls, 'real' pizzas. Even tried the Chicken Calzone, which is like a pizza folded over into a semi circle with filling. Dessert lovers, don't miss the tiramisu - a soft pastry topped with coffee and cocoa powder
The ambience is very 5-star, quiet with muted music. Earlier, they used to have musicians, going round playing at each table. On holidays you'll usually have to wait for a table. Expect to find a mixture of tourists, the rich and the famous chatting over their cappucinos.
But go there for the food, more than anything else.
