I really don't know where to start or how to start in sharing this tragedy in my life. How a medicine prescribed by the doctor took life of an innocent..I definitely wanted this message to reach out to everyone and anyone addicted to any sort of medicines/drugs. Here goes story of my one and only Brother Raghu. He was an handsome , cleaver ,highly energitic person with Strongly built body. He was humorous and fun loving person. He was suffering from migrane/headache since his childhood (since he was 10 yr old). He was treated by many doctors in Bengaluru but was never cured. The reason unknown. We had got several scans , MRI done but was not with any findings. Just few lines on this back ground , He was not very good at studies hence started to work at very young age of 17.He worked for many companies mostly in the hospital/medical field . As he grew up , along with it grew the increasing migrane issue. He use to be sick and in bed for 2/3 days in a montth. The pain was so severe that he could barely eat anything for 1 or 2 days. During the migrane attacks , he use to cry our loud and would be desperate to look for any medicine that can help reduce the pain. With this he had developed habit of taking high dosage pills than he's supposed to, he was taking 3 or 4 migranil or vasogrin pills in a day. This continued for years and He got married 5 yrs ago (2008) . The ties between the families post marriage wasnt very good and he had to move out of our house along his wife. This added to his tensions and he started to become weak mentally and the headache problem worsened. He had joined BGS global hospital in Kengeri (2009) which was after few months of his marriage and then one day we received a call from his wife (my sil) that he's in ICU. We were shocked to learn that he's addicted some kind of drug actually a medicine. That was the the starting point of his tough time , this medicine was presribed by the doctor who was Senior neurologist consultant - Dr Sanjeev. I would like to say that this doctor had not just prescribed the tramadol but had written prescription to his death. He was prescribed this on 18th July 2011 and 2 years from this date sadly my brother is no More , it is highly painful to let go of some with whom you had shared life for 33 yrs, It's exactly 2 months since we lost him but we our minds are still waiting for his return ,my mom beliieves that his son would return back from an interview for which he had left home on 9th July 2013 and my dad who took very good care of him till the last moment barely talks and is with deep sadness. What my brother suffered in these two is only known to us. We never knew that Tramadol is so addictive, Initally we beleived that he can over come this addiction all by himself with self determination , until I googled for it. I was shocked to know that this drug carries high threat to his life as the side affects are very severe in nature especially with drawl symptoms.I always wondered why the hell doctor Sanjeev had to prescribe such an heavy dosage addictive medicine (which controls the Central nervous system) for a migrane issue though he has carefully said in his presciption that the medicine to be taken only on emergency, but it is an addictive drug hence it is not very easy to quit after using it for few days. As mostly he was working in hospital field he had easy access to the drug as this is some thing heavily used to treat patients in ICU,unfortunately he was working as ICU co-ordinator in BGS. I always wanted to See doctor who prescribed it to my brother but could ever meet him to sort this out as my brother safely hid the prescreption which he used to buy the tramadol injections from medical stores. He was suffering from all the symptoms the drug carried with it like repeated vomitting/nausea ,depression, mood swings , shevering ,stroke etc. We started to witness all of this every single day. He had tried to quit after having suffered nmany times but was not able to. The stoke/epilepsy was some thing he developed only during last few month of his life , the first time he had epilapsy he fell straight down and hit his face in our home ,he was very critical with several face injuries and was bleeding heavily. This was the 5th hospitalization post introduction of this drug in his life by the way I had missed to mention that we had enrolled him in rehabs twice in two years but he was not successful except for few days of quit time he always had gone back to Tramadol without our knowledge as he was very good in convincing us , in this 5th hospitalization (april 2013) he suffered a lot but was out of danger and was discharged in a week time. The doctor who treated him in Victoria hospital had mentioned that stroke is only due to the medicine abuse and would not recur if he quits. So we did not take it very seriously and insisted him to quit Tramadol with the alternate safe medicines which doctors in Victoria hospital had prescribed. He wanted to getback to work though we insisted not to until he is completely cured. On 9th July 2013 , he left for an interview with Faith Ayurveda healing center in Hesarghatta hoping that job there can probably help him avail treatment to overcome the addiction and find remedy for his health issues. But he was not lucky this time as on his way back to home from the interview , he had 2nd storke attack on road , on lookers on road had wasted 15/20 of precious time until a muslim bhai Yasin arrived on spot and got him adimitted to Ramaiah after a brief visit to Headley in MS palya. He had hit hard on his forehead due to fall and had a deep hole on his forehead which had done severe damage to his brain. .He breathed his last on 11th July 2013 after 2 days in Coma , he never opened his eyelids , he was completely supported by artificial systems ,ventilator in MICU. We can never forget the person who got him admitted and tried his level best to save him , all my thanks and blessings to Yasin and his family for being in my brother's last few minutes of his life. In Ramaiah hospital doctors did try their best but my brother had left no option as he had injured his brain and nothing could save him. the hole on his forehead had passed enough of air to stop the blood flow in his brain and had brain nerves ruptured at several parts including deep impact small brain. He was in coma for 1 day before giving up his breath. He was just 33 yr old and is survived by his wife and baby who's just 13 month old. My intention of bringing this up here is to create awareness about Tramadol addiction and to place these requests to every reader of this bolg , 1. Kindly help injured on road , call an ambulance immediately and any medical assistance received with in hour of the injury can mostly save life. , People mostly hesitate police formalities and shy away from helping injured on road but the kindly help the needy as you never know how precious he could be to his family and friends and that they will be greatful to you for life. You will neither face any serious troubles from police or any one.. 2. NEVER EVER GET ADDICTED TO ANY SORT OF MEDICINES, Read the side affects of any medicine and be aware. Seek family help , keep aside all your ego in admitting to the addiction . Seek help from good rehabiliation centers to over come drug abuse. 3. If you have anyone in family or in your freind circle suffering from any drug addiction , KINDLY GIVE THEM COMPLETE SUPPORT. 4. Last but not least - Doctors , Kindly refrain from prescribing overdose/addictive medicines. Humble thanks to all the readers for having taken time to read this, I only hope and wish that Tramadol users benefit from this and that it can help save some ones life.
