Continuining my You Know You Are from Series, on those places where I spent at least a year. For me the best knowledge of a place is not a tourist eye view, but to see it from the perspective of a resident of that place. Delhi was a place where I had spent a good 2 years in my career. Technically it was Noida, but quite often used to go to Delhi and Gurgaon too, so this is my recollections of Dilli. Contributions from fellow Dilwales or Dilwalis of Dilli will be appreciated.
You know you are from Delhi
When you approach a tent house decorator for marriage arrangements.
On Sundays you hit the India Gate lawns for the ice creams and chaat.
You tend to end every sentence with "Haanji", address even those younger to you as "Bhaisaab".
Every house has a minimum of 2 cars.
You refer to East Delhi as Jamuna ke Us Paar.
You refer to AIIMS as Medical.
You relish the gol gappas at Khan Market.
You join your Bongfriends for the Durga Puja celebration in C.R.Park.
Your car has a minimum of 2 dents, and you would have indulged in fisticuffs with a fellow driver at least once in your lifetime.
Your language is a mixture of Hindi, Punjabi and Haryanvi abuses.
You hang out at Priya'son weekends for the latest Hollywood blockbuster, but more so to ogle at the PYT's in mini skirts there.
The pretty young female right next to your home, addresses you as "Bhaiyya".
You find the red gulmohur in full bloom during summer time.
Every one you meet claims to know or is related to a VIP.
You dont buy tickets for a music concert or cricket match, but try to take the help of your friend's Dad, who happens to be the PA to the under secretary of the deputy secretary of the chief secretary of the Minister of State for Khadi.
You hang out at Sarojini Nagar or Lajpat Nagar market for budget shopping.
Well as of now, these are what I could recollect. Any more from fellow Dilli Wales, will be appreciated.
