Writing history - on monuments

Ever noticed someone's love for someone else inscribed on one of our historical monuments? Or the advertisement that someone, otherwise unknown, visited a historical place?

Great emperors and builders of the past left their bookmarks in the pages of history by building monuments like the Taj Mahal, Quatub Minar, Meenakshi Temple and the Amer fort. But it not only them who want to be remembered via these physical evidences. All the toms, dicks, and harry's of today want to use the same to embed their names in the pagesĀ  of history as well, albiet at the cost of defacing monuments.

Its obvious that most of us do not value our historical tresure as anything more than a picnic spot. I do not think the same can be governed by anything other than education and self governamce, but will that ever happen ? Or can that ever happen?

Till the time it does not happen , the sould of all these great builders of the past would be constantly pricked by people of current times describing their emotions by their drawings or writings at pubilc places.
