Hi All,
Its being over two months after 26/11 in India and are observing the whole gamut on our television sets and reading them in newspapers. Being no expert of the political matters just trying to analyze to some extent as to what the political class around the globe is up to!
Mumbai incident took a heavy toll on our state and the very functioning of our security structure! The anger was high and the outcry was war on our neighboring country. So despite having the will and power to settle it once for all, our strategists stood by "wait and watch policy". WHY??? The following scenarios might reveal the problems to some extent.
Indian Perspective:
- No single party government at the centre: This is fine to say that "at the time of a war we all are together", (but after the war we aren’t). So, the repercussions would be solely by the standing govt.
2. No Single leader : After the assasination of Rajiv Gandhi, Inida has not seen a leader who can lead us to heights. Who can speak for us, who can defend us with utmost faith, care, strength, vision, courage etc. Rahul is still very new. Sharad Pawar may chip in but even the maestro is getting old. I am not sure of Advani stealing the show, though he is capable. Indian Politics has churned out PMs but not leaders!
3. Severe Loss: A war brings with it the tremendous debacle of cities/infrastructure/people/law and order/inflation etc. It is such a fire that takes with it almost everything! So, is it worth to go for such an option? I agree that we lost many precious lives and this is an irrevocable loss, but can we justify any step that would guarantee a loss of more innocent lives? Surely not!
4. Russia type situation: Everyone knows what the situation in Russia is. They are fighting a cold war for many years now and have drained themselves due to continuous war.Surely dont want such situations in India.
5. Opportunity Cost: We are at the juncture to become a global super power. We have it all - Youth, knowledge, expertise, and vision and above all the will to achieve. A war will throw us 100 years back. It is big price to bargain for! The money that we might shell on a war can be utilized for many useful projects and the overall development of the country.
6. Nukes: One Nuke and Mumbai is no more! Just think of such an occurrence. We are aware of the diseases that still prevail in Japan.
7. Whom we are going to fight? : If your answer is Pakistan then I would request to think again. I don’t know why I just think Pakistan as a country with two parts. One ruled by the President and one by ISI and ISI by ... So we are in turn opening ourselves with some org.s we should be keeping ourselves away from.
Global perspective:
- Support: Here, we know that USA has its agenda for Afghanistan, Iraq and eastern countries. Bush administration, I think was not in the favor of India and Obama seeming in favour, might still opt for Pakistan since they need them for their own purpose. Again, USA need to sell their arms and amunition to some country or organizations and India is not a very big market either. SO......
2. Neighbours: China cannot stand India and might be happy if we loose from them by or on any ground! They can shy away from us and might support to??? History is against them and our experiences with them are not rewarding.
Russia is already drained but a very strong ally of India since Indira Gandhi era. But they are busy in their own problems so they are in but reluctantly!
Srilanka is busted by LTTE and Bangladesh by Bodos.
It leaves India vulnerable from all sides and on lower edge on a global front!
3. Recession: Where is the money for the war? A war at this time may lead us to Stone Age.
4. Beginning of cold war: A war shall instigate a never ending cold war on a higher degree than now.
The list goes on.....
As a normal Indian my heart burnt when I saw the massacre, but still think that we need to keep our cool and get an alternative solution to this. Also, we cant sit idle and behave like eunuchs. That’s the reason(s) that Mr. Pranab is forcing the global community to see the vulnerable side of terrorism. The global support though not convincing atleast has brought some indirect pressure on Pakistan.(at least they are revealing that)
On the other hand we can finish this in a week’s time, but the corresponding smoke shall flow for decades all together.
The above is just a reflection of my personal thoughts. I am not commenting against any country or nation. Nor do I support any political person or any political ideology. I have just forwarded my views on the current affairs that I am observing from over 2 months in a capacity of an Indian Citizen.
Please let me know your take on it.
